Spending and borrowing patterns are complex. Dr. Charles Richards’ book, The Psychology of Wealth: Understand Your Relationship with Money and Achieve Prosperity (McGraw-Hill), helps readers become aware of their own patterns.

Providing a psychological look at how we relate to money and wealth, Dr. Richards identifies common traits amongst people with health money relationships, and features interviews and research to illustrate that everyone is capable of developing a good relationship with money.

A sense of prosperity can be had, whether or not one’s bank account is large or small.

The Psychology of Wealth

Do you know where your wealth in life is? Why are some people enthusiastic about setting financial goals, while this task makes others tremble? Is a good relationship with money something that is learned or something that is hardwired?

Talking with professors, entrepreneurs, and other people who have reached a level of their defined success, Dr. Richards believes everyone is capable of an extraordinary life with professional and personal prosperity. The “sense of comfort and control in one’s relationship with money” is what he calls the psychology of wealth.

Common Attribute Amongst Successful People

After Dr. Richards interviewed a variety of successful people with a variety of careers, he noted some common traits. These attributes of the “psychology of wealth” include:

  • self-esteem;
  • responsibility;
  • determination; and
  • achievement.

Healthy relationships with money are formed when people take conscious responsibility for their spending and set boundaries with what they can or cannot afford.

Action Plan Guide for Personal Wealth

This educational book does not offer readers a financial plan, but rather serves as a guide for action in readers’ pursuits for wealth.

Easy to understand and well written, Dr. Richards notes that everyone can follow his steps at any point in their life. It’s up to each individual to change and take control of his or her perspective on prosperity.
